HomeHotel ReviewsThe Kensington: A Musical Celebration Carole Hamilton samples a Proms-inspired evening at her new favourite London hotel, the super-chic Kensington The Kensington hotel, part of the Doyle Collection has it all; a great location, the fabulous K bar, amazing beds and a stylish restaurant serving some rather good food. From now until the 9 September, this charming boutique hotel is celebrating the UK’s most iconic classical music festival at neighbouring Royal Albert Hall (of which the hotel is an official partner), with a host of musically inspired offerings. I loved the musically inspired floral installation by William Clarke that greets you at the door and raises a smile. Spanning the entire exterior, it’s an explosion of greenery, entwined with decorative musical notes, violins and even a piano covered in grass and flowers. Ask about one of the five specially created musically inspired cocktails. These include the likes of ‘Nicola Beneditti’:Dalmore, Ardmore, lemon juice, ginger and honey syrup and ‘Andre Previn’: 207 gin and Balzahar red. Visit on Friday or Saturday evening (between 6pm – 8pm) and you can enjoy musical duo, The City String Ensemble, who perform both classical and current favourites. The four-course ‘Proms’ menu, with wine pairings, has been designed exclusively by Executive chef Steve Gibbs in honour the event. The menu is packed with seasonal summer delights and includes: Heirloom tomato & elderflower consommé with Dorset crab parcels and a lemon salsa verde, Burratina di Puglia with watermelon, beetroot and jasmine honey, ‘Josper grilled poussin’ with purple sprouting broccoli, Jersey Royals, and salsa verde and finally a wickedly good fruits of the forest parfait with vanilla foam and lime sorbet. You can enjoy this menu at the hotel’s Town House restaurant or on the private, heated outdoor terrace that makes the most the late summer sunshine.
