London’s Coolest Winter Terraces

Winter may be fast approaching, but there’s still plenty of reasons to venture out into the cold. We’ve found a few of the best outdoor terraces in London to try for a chic and cosy treat – from Nutella-inspired cafes and al fresco films to rustic Little Red Riding Hood lodges and Bavarian-style beer tents.

Dalloway Terrace’s winter wonderland

Bloomsbury’s enchanting Dalloway Terrace will be transformed into the perfect heated hideaway – complete with hot chocolate cocktails, cheese fondue, festive films and a hearty menu of winter delights.

Transformed by master florists Wild at Heart by Nikki Tibbles, visit the terrace for snow-covered Narnia-like foliage and sheep skin rugs. Dalloway Terrace will also be providing hot water bottles and complimentary shots of Génépi liqueur (a digestif similar to Absinthe) on the heated terrace to guarantee the perfect cosy evening.

Dalloway Terrace will be embracing the Alpine spirit with an exclusive range of savoury and sweet Fondue in collaboration with London’s La Fromagerie. The savoury offering will include a selection of sourdough and pickled root vegetables with dips, with White Chocolate Fondue with Clementines, Strawberries and Banana on offer for those seeking something sweet.

Chocolate lovers will also delight in the special chocolate afternoon tea and hot chocolate cocktail menu from the internationally renowned chocolatier Maison Pierre Marcolini. The tea will include everything from a white chocolate & christmas pudding dome to assorted Pierre Marconi Macarons and a pecan & salted caramel chocolate slice – plus plenty more.

Plus, every Saturday night, the heated terrace will be playing host to Dalloway Film Club in conjunction with The Nomad Cinema, showcasing an array of classic movies through wireless headphones and a 30-foot screen. A selection of dishes can be ordered from the Dalloway Film Club Menu paired with bespoke cocktails inspired by the film being shown.

Harvey Nichols’ Nutella pop-up lodge

Harvey Nichols has unveiled its winter pop-up in partnership with Nutella on the Fifth Floor terrace at its Knightsbridge store – and it’s a sweet tooth’s dream come true.

The Terrace will be transformed into an Italian alpine winter lodge, where the very best breakfast favourites with a Nutella twist will be served to Londoners.

Guests will be able to choose from delicious homemade crêpes with banana, strawberry and Nutella; “Porridgella”, an Italian twist on oats served with banana and Nutella; Mini Focaccia with Nutella; or a yoghurt parfait with berries and Nutella – making it one of London’s best breakfast spots for Harvey Nichols customers and Nutella fans alike.

Galvin HOP’s Winter Garden

From 14 November, Spitalfields pub deluxe, Galvin HOP will host a Winter Garden in partnership with the original golden pilsner, Pilsner Urquell. Running throughout the festive season and into the New Year, the Pilsner Urquell Winter Garden will be available to the public as well as for private hire.

The Bavarian-style beer tent will feature rustic wooden barrel tables set against a backdrop of twinkling fairy lights and Christmas decorations to set the festive mood. The beer tent will additionally feature its own bar comprising of a 250 litre copper tank serving fresh unpasteurised Pilsner Urquell, delivered weekly direct from Pilsen, Czech Republic.

For hungry visitors, the menu will offer bar snacks such as Saddleback Pork Rillettes and remoulade; Cumbrian Beef Rump Burger; and Tarte Flambée. Galvin HOP’s signature Dogs will also be available.

The Matthew Williamson Garden at Blakes

Iconic boutique hotel Blakes has commissioned British designer Matthew Williamson to re-design their courtyard garden – and the transformed courtyard makes the ideal winter oasis.

Visit the Matthew Williamson Garden at Blakes to be transported into a world of a refined yet spirited sense of bohemian glamour. Eclectically styled furniture painted in mint green pulls together the other elements of the garden to convey a Mediterranean alfresco lifestyle for afternoon coffee and late night courtyard cocktails. Furnishing fabrics from Matthew Williamson’s latest Osborne & Little collection, ‘Durbar’, add his signature aesthetic of print and kaleidoscopic colour to the space.

The lavish domed birdcage has been refreshed with an antique gold exterior and deep magenta flooring by BOLON – offering a decadently sumptuous feel for an escape from the elements or a magical night under the stars.

Lodge d’Argent’s wintery return at Coq d’Argent

Following the success of last year’s winter pop up, City restaurant Coq d’Argent will once again be creating a magical winter wonderland on its rooftop.

Running from 23rd November until the end of February, the festive terrace will be inspired by the Little Red Riding Hood story – evoking the French fairy tale with rustic wooden walls, and fur blankets and cushions. In addition, beautiful mason-style jars with miniature Little Red Riding Hood scenes will be displayed throughout the terrace, and rafts of wintry ferns will adorn the space.

Head Chef Damien Rigollet’s Lodge d’Argent menu will focus on well-loved, hearty French classics, including Raclette gratin with ratte potatoes and Alpine dry cured ham, as well as a dessert menu offering sweet dishes paired with Hennessy Cognac, including Chestnut macarons and Fresh waffles with hot chocolate and chantilly cream.

Angel De Sousa, Bar and Grill Manager, has also curated a list of winter warmer cocktails in collaboration with Hennessy Cognac, including the Holly Winter with sweet vermouth, ginger, spice syrup, cranberry juice and ginger ale; Mitten with Mozart dark chocolate and gingerbread, topped with hot chocolate; and Fire Wood with Pedro Ximenez, Kahlua, orange bitters and walnuts bitters.
