Mica Paris To Perform Intimate Jazz Performance At Quaglino’s

Queen of Soul Mica Paris will pay tribute to jazz icon Ella Fitzgerald’s 100th birthday at an intimate performance at Quaglino’s on Thursday 25th May.

In celebration of her anticipated new album ‘Mica Sings Ella’, produced by Guy Jeffrey Barker MBE, Mica will perform a number of classic Ella songs including ‘I’ve got you under my skin’ and ‘Every time we say goodbye’ live on Quaglino’s Grand Stage for one night only.

Boasting a career full of top-ten hit singles, a platinum-selling album and collaborations with Prince and Jools Holland, Mica also led a career in the West End, playing a lead role in the UK tour of Chicago and in Love Me Tender , the Elvis Presley musical.

Quaglino’s is one of the capital’s most iconic restaurants and late-night venues, offering contemporary European dishes and a celebrated cocktail menu. Offering a packed calendar of entertainment and live music every week, the venue’s previous performers have included Beverley Knight and legends Marianne Faithful and Jocelyn Brown.

We caught up with Mica to find out more…

What can fans expect from the performance?
I think fans can still expect to get the Mica they now but now with a major jazz twist.

Do you have a favourite Ella song?
Imagine My Frustration and Your My Thrill.

What’s been your ultimate career highlight to date?
Performing at Carnegie Hall was pretty spectacular. A moment I have never forgotten.

Tell us more about your path to success…
I started singing in my grandfather’s church when I was really little and soon realised I had a passion for it. I got signed to Island Records at 17 years old and my first record came out one year later. It shot to platinum!

What can they expect from the singles? Favourite track of the two?
They can expect me singing Ella Fitzgerald and hopefully paying her the tribute she deserves! I love them both but I think Imagine My Frustration is my favourite.

What inspired you to get involved in music?
First my older sister singing made me want to sing them listening to the gospel group the Hawkins singers made me want to do the same thing.

If you could share a meal with anyone, who would it be and why?
I’d want to share a meal with the poet Rumi.

Quaglino’s is a pretty delicious restaurant – do you have any favourites from the menu?
They do an amazing Sea Bream dish that comes with these tasty crushed potatoes, confit peppers and a green sauce that tastes unbelievably fresh!
