Join cycling author Anna Hughes for a special guided cycle ride in the Cotswolds from Calcot hotel to Barnsley House and back.
Countryside cycling is a pursuit that Gloucestershire hotels, Calcot (near Tetbury) and Barnsley House (near Cirencester) have been increasingly championing for some years now. In early October the sister properties will be stepping up a gear by teaming up with the cycling author, Anna Hughes for a picturesque guided return ride between both hotels.
Following the gorgeous excursion, the day will be rounded off as Anna chats about inspirational cycling stories from her latest book, Pedal Power over early evening drinks and nibbles back at Calcot.
Gathering at Calcot at 11.15am, cyclists will be introduced to the route ahead by Anna who will highlight particular challenges and attractions along the way. “Eat, Sleep, Cycle – a bike ride around the coast of Britain’ author, Anna Hughes is a lifelong cyclist and environmentalist. A light and energising pasta salad, fruit juices, coffee and energy gels will be served at Calcot before the cycling group sets off at 12 noon for Barnsley House, arriving there around 2.15pm.
As a passionate cycling tourist and traveller, Anna’s various adventures have taken her around the coast of the UK by bike and by boat, along the spine of Britain from Land’s End to John o’Groats and through the rigours of an Ironman. Qualified as a cycling instructor and mechanic, Anna’s more recent book, Pedal Power was published (also by Summersdale) in April 2017.
Barnsley House will be the perfect midway point and restorative pit-stop. Tea, coffee and cake will aid relaxation and provide a much needed boost while any bicycle maintenance or repair can be undertaken at the same time. Ideal for end-of-ride R&R time, the 35-bedroom Calcot and its award-winning Spa will expect to welcome back all riders around 5.00pm (well before a 6.37pm sunset). Here there will be the chance for cyclists to enjoy the spa facilities, shower and change.
At 6pm, Anna will chat about her latest book and what inspired her to write it. Over drinks and hearty canapés, she will highlight tales from the world of cycling that are covered in “Pedal Power” – a collection of inspirational stories from riders around the world, both ordinary and extraordinary. There’s the cyclist who conquered Mont Ventoux on a Boris bike, to the trials rider who hops from building to building, to classic tales of Grand Tour rivalries and legendary cycling records of days gone by.
