The Lampery, a British-inspired restaurant opens at Apex Hotel City of London near Tower Bridge

If you love British grub, you’ll love this new opening. Meet The Lampery, a new all-day dining spot  providing good, honest cooking in the heart of historic London. Inspired by a passion for authentic British cuisine and locally-sourced produce, the restaurant and cocktail bar serves a ‘Best of British’ menu full of mouthwatering favourites.

The Lampery interior

Situated a short walk from the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, The Lampery takes its name from one of Seething Lane’s most illustrious former residents’ favourite dishes – MP Samuel Pepys’ ‘most rare’ The Lampery pye.

What to eat

The restaurant’s opening menu includes a selection of hearty autumnal dishes such as The Lampery Pye, a new take on a classic made with slow braised beef cheek and prunes; Cumbrian back bacon chop with fried duck egg and triple cooked chips, a refined version of the family favourite; and a whole herb-fed roast chicken for two, served with tarragon mash and maple crispy chicken skin.

The extensive grill section of the menu also includes several cuts of beef such as bone in sirloin and chateaubriand, each cooked directly over fire on the kitchen’s custom-made grill.

For those looking for a lighter option, there is also a host of healthy alternatives available including seared Scottish salmon with dressed crab and pickled samphire or Cornish mackerel ceviche with scorched grapefruit, pickled cucumber, horseradish and fennel.

What to drink
The house cocktail menu further takes inspiration from entries in Pepys’ diary with new takes on classic cocktails including: The Red Snapper, a twist on the Bloody Mary that will include The Lampery’s very own Mary mix recipe, combined with Jensen gin and topped with clamato juice; and Not Your Pepys’s Manhattan, a combination of Woodford Reserve, Jim Beam, Licor 43, martini rosso and orange bitters, designed to provide a sweeter taste than its regular counterpart. As well as the cocktail menu, there is also an extensive wine and beer selection available.
